“You are not a drop in the ocean. You are the entire ocean in a drop."
- Rumi
What exactly is surf therapy?
The International Surf Therapy Organization defines surf therapy as "the use of surfing as a vehicle for delivering intentional, inclusive, population-specific, and evidenced-based therapeutic structures to promote psychological, physical, and psychosocial well-being."

More holistically, surf therapy can be defined as anything that uses somatic, trauma-informed, eco, play, and community therapy models to best support the holistic healing of communities. You don't need to surf to explore the benefits of a surf therapy program!
Our Offerings
SURF THERAPY SESSIONS
Surf Therapy sessions are facilitated group or individual sessions with a focus on grounding yourself in nature, and coming back to oneself in the present. The sessions consist of a land lesson incorporating art therapy, movement, and discussion, and a water lesson in which you are invited to play in and around the ocean and experience the healing power of the blue mind.

Sessions are led by a certified surf therapy facilitator, a mental health practitioner, and volunteers and all are welcome! You don't need to know how to surf to experience the healing power of the ocean.

Surf Therapy sessions have two main goals:
Surf Goal: Build relationship with the Ocean and surfing as a tool for deeper relationship with ocean, self, and others.
Therapy Goal: Build relationship with our body and inner strengths and power. What resources do we already have within us for healing.

MEET THE TEAM
GINA JURLANDO
Founder and Certified Surf Therapy Facilitator
Gina founded Ride the Tide Surf Therapy after completing her facilitator training with Groundswell Community Project in 2023 to bring surf therapy to her communities in NYC and NJ. She is a certified surf therapy facilitator, lifeguard, and the founder of the femme-focused surf club and community group Yeasty Boys.

In the day-to-day, Gina is also the partnerships and events manager for the non-profit Oceanic Global and can often be found planning events for work and YB with a focus on ocean sustainability, surf etiquette, community service, and more. She splits her time between her boat in Rockaway Beach and her land house in Asbury Park with her husband, two dogs, and a hairless cat. When she's not planning events or hosting meetups and surf therapy sessions, she can be found surfing, reading on the beach, volunteering, or researching her next backpacking trip.

As a lifelong water woman who tried traditional forms of therapy with little success, Gina believes everyone should experience the power of surf therapy as no two people and therefore their healing experiences are alike.
